Conquer Your Instant Pot Fears

Even though the Instant Pot® has been on the market for a few years I am surprised to find how many are actually in fear of using this amazing pressure cooker. To conquer your Instant Pot® you must face them head on. You must jump in with both feet. Conquering any fears is never easy, however; once you do the results are liberating.

I feared the Instant Pot® for approximately two years until I was given no option but to use one and try to become an expert on its recipes and functions. Well, we all know that becoming an expert on something doesn’t happen over night. I am currently working on developing my skills. Yes, skills.

Can you imagine really needing skill to use this piece of equipment? Not many are required because of all of the pre-sets but, developing and trying new recipes can be a challenge. I have had successes and epic fails but, I still press on.

To conquer your Instant Pot® fears go to a class. If you have a Williams Sonoma in your area they have regular classes. If you purchase your unit there, they will demo it for you. Once you have a demo, your fears will lessen. I met a woman this past Sunday who has had one in a box for a year and has not opened it, let alone used it. She is experiencing overwhelming  “Instant Pot Fear”. I offered her a one-on-one private class this Wednesday to help her through it.

Smoothies for a Better Bod

Heads Up! My posts may contain affiliate links! If you buy something through one of those links, you wont pay a penny more, but we will receive a small commission, which helps to keep things running!

Now that Spring is here thoughts of Summer are brewing:  Beaches, Bathing Suits and Sleeveless Tops. Whether you are male or female, we all inately want to look and feel our best. Now is the time to get ready for Summer and start a smoothie making routine.

However, you need to beware of what you put in your smoothie. Don’t trick yourself into believing that all smoothies  are created equal. For example, if you go to one of those local smoothie shops you will be blown away by the sugar and calorie content. You could be looking anywhere from 400 – 800+ calories. So if you are calorie counting, make sure you order a smoothie that is right for you.

Green smoothies are the best! High in nutrients and low in calories. The color usually freaks people out but, if you were blindfolded and had no idea of the color you would love it. My favorite basic “green” smoothie consists of:

  • 1/2 cup coconut water
  • 1 cup fresh baby spinach (packed tightly)
  • 1/2 cup fresh, frozen chopped pineapple
  • 1/2 cup fresh chopped peach (approx 1 peach)
  • 1 peeled banana
  • 1/2 cup of ice cubes
blend until it reaches the desired consistency or use the preset if you have a Vitamix

Making sure you keep your fridge stocked with all the fresh veggies and fruits and coming up with new recipes can be a  challenge. However, I have come across GreenBlender . GreenBlender provides farm-fresh ingredients for superfood smoothies delivered weekly to your door. Its very simple: Choose your recipes, get your box, blend and enjoy! Each box comes with easy-to-follow recipes with clear nutritional info and health benefits. I particularly enjoy having hard to find chia, hempseed, matcha, reishi and pea protein to make a superfood smoothie. It’s a win-win for households who are pressed for time.

One recommended investment I made was purchasing a Vitamix. I used to have a highly popular model of blender then bought a Vitamix; the Vitamix made all the difference in the world. The presets help tremendously and interestingly enough the consistency of the blend was smoother. I am not crazy it is true.

So now, with my Vitamix and the GreenBlender program on the horizon, I am prepared to embark on the life changing journey of smoothie making. Vitamix Professional Series 750 Blender, Programmable, Self-Cleaning 64 oz. Container, Heritage is the model I use regularly.

Deliciousness delivered to your door by GreenBlender.

Now there are no excuses not to make a smoothie or a healthy juice. Its a fantastic plan to jumstart your summer bod!

A Grill for Your Mother

This is a testament to how simple, easy to use and amazing the Phillips Infrared Grill is.

We were making chicken tacos with dry rub for a cooking class using the Phillips Grill. It heated up almost instantly, maintained an even temperature and thoroughly cooked the breasts for about 10 minutes on each side with NO smoke. The chicken was sooo moist and delicious I was beside myself. It cleaned up in a minute with the nonstick grate. I was impressed.

Honestly, I’ve been looking at purchasing this grill for about a year now but, you know how it goes. It never happened. Now I am HOOKED and it’s on my priority list.

It’s so convenient Mother’s Day is coming; this would make the perfect gift (hint) for Moms, Dads, Grads and especially apartment dwellers. LOVE IT!

Avoid an Appliance Nightmare

Measuring for appliances is just as important as measuring your linear foot. If you do not have the proper appliance measurements you could have a disaster on your hands. There are some standards to consider when laying out your kitchen. Before you head out shopping keep your measurements handy. Knowing these measurements will help you narrow down your selection. We use Stanley tapemeaures. They are tough, durable and I have had mine for 10 years!

Ranges: Measure W x H x D. The standard range typically measures 30x36x27 depending on brand and style.

Cooktops: Cooktops are cut into the countertop. Their measurements can start as small as 27″. The most popular size is a 30″ just like the standard range, however, 36″ can be a great choice.

Wall Ovens: Whether you are getting a single wall oven, double wall oven or microwave combo, you will need several extra inches on the sides for installation. Depending on the size your designer can work this in to make sure you have the correct cabinet to house the unit. These can be tricky as they are a true custom feature.

Microwaves: Above the range microwaves are a standard 30″w since they go above the range. However, pay close attention to the height and depth before purchasing. Manufacturer models vary in height and depth which can cause a problem if measured after the design and purchase process. Microwave height affects the cabinet size that goes above the microwave.

Dishwashers: They are a standard 24″ wide and are meant to fit underneath the countertop inbetween standard height base cabinets. Dishwashers have leveling feet on the bottom should you need to raise or lower the unit a small bit.

Refrigerators: THERE IS NO STANDARD SIZE FOR REFRIGERATORS! Be mindful of all of the refrigerator measurements: width, height (including hinges) and depth (including handles for tight spaces). It is important to consider the depth of the cabinet going above the refrigerator because you will need clearance to open the doors; you dont want the hinges to prevent you from opening the doors all the way.

If you only have a 36″ opening for your refrigerator it could not be enough room for that beautiful french door or oversized unit. Alter your design to fit the refrigerator of your dreams. Also, if you are in tight quarters consider a counter depth refrigerator. These do not stick out 6″ from the countertop and are just  about flush with the countertop.

Bar Refrigerators: These also vary in size. Estimate 18″ or more to work into your plan.
