Extreme Ramen

If you have never eaten Ramen, you are missing the boat. Yes, it very cheap; typically $.50 to $1.00 depending where you shop.

But, I’m not talking about just eating Ramen. I’m talking about creating a Ramen dish to call your own. Let’s get extreme! Break out the spices, spiralized veggies, cheese and eggs for one damn good healthy meal.

The bowl shown below is simple veggies: spiral yellow zucchini, cucumber and carrots. Clearly, the veggies go on top of the dish. Don’t cook the veggies or they’ll get soggy.

Things start getting extreme by adding spices, a slice of American cheese and a cracked egg. Putting an egg in at the end of the cooking process while leaving the pot on the range gives the egg a chance to poach. Put the cheese on top right when serving. The cheese gets all gooey and delicious. I use Boars Head American. But try your favorite cheese. That’s the fun part of Ramen – you can customize the flavors to your liking.

Shown above is Ramen with egg, cheese and carrots. I held back on the broth for the purpose of the photo so you could see the egg and cheese.

On instagram there are thousands of beautifully staged photos of intimidating ramen bowls with hard boiled eggs, veggies and everything one needs to make the dish look beautiful. The photos here are real life with my iPhone – real time – ready to eat. You can jump right in, start cooking and know it doesn’t have to look perfect to be delicious.

Another fun thing about eating ramen and noodle bowls is not only playing with the ingredients but, theres tons of fun in getting new bowls. Having the right bowl for your ramen creation is key; it seals the deal! 1. So you never cook the veggies that go in Ramen? Does the hot stock kinda cook them? I’ve just gotten into noodles and can’t get enough of them. At the mo I stir fry all the veg and make it into a big soup, but if there is a better way yay.
