Tips for Perfect Pie Crust

What’s in a pie? Does it matter as long as you have the perfect pie crust? Follow these tips for a delicious crust.

  1. Don’t Handle More than Necessary; don’t over work the fat and flour. Cut your butter into the flour. The butter must be very cold and hard, forming pea size shapes. If the butter softens, it creates a tough crust.
Add Minimal Water. Add water a tablespoon at a time. Stop adding water when the dough can hold together from a pinch.
  • 3. Keep The Dough Cold. Refrigerate the rolled crust for about one hour before filling and baking.
  • For the inexperienced, purchase a pre-made dough in the refrigerator section of the grocery store or use a box mix. Practice a couple times to perfect dough made from scratch. Enjoy!
  • Basic Pie Crust Recipe
  • 1 1/4 c All Purpose Flour
  • 1/4 tsp. Salt
  • 1/2 c Butter, cold, diced
  • 1/4 c Ice Water (tablespoon at a time)
  • Combine flour and salt. Cut in butter to form pea size balls. Add water a tablespoon at a time until ball forms. Wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Roll out.

Melt Hearts with this Warm Valentine’s Day Delight

Indulging in chocolate and champagne is what I look forward to on Valentine’s Day. However, this Valentine’s Day I will be satisfying my sweet tooth and melting hearts with Horka Laska: A Czechoslovakian delight.

I don’t know why it took so long for me to hear about this sinfully delicious, melt in your mouth, warm raspberry piece of dessert heaven!

One of the best things is it only takes about 5 minutes to make!

1/2 tblsp butter, 1 1/4 cup rasberries, 1/4 cup sugar and 1 Tblsp of Chamboard (raspberry liqueur). Warm in sauce pan, stirring gently until sugar is dissolved. Serve warm over ice cream.

Sometimes, No Recipe is The Best Recipe

I’m sure at one time or another you have come home from a busy day with no idea of what to make for dinner. Happens to me quite often but, sometimes no recipe can be the best recipe.

Check out this leftover, bbq rotisserie chicken pizza which turned out to be one of the best pizza’s I have ever had.

This was literally made from leftovers and whatever was in the refrigerator.

    • rotisserie chicken
    • bbq sauce
    • onion rings
    • mushrooms
    • chopped onion
    • mozzarella cheese
    • blue cheese dressing
    • pizza dough from the bakery( I always keep one on hand as a go to)

My point being: get creative, let no food go to waste and stop stressing over that ”perfect” recipe.

    Have fun in the kitchen!
